Smoothing Plane Kits

The St. James Bay Tool Co. makes 3 different styles of smoothing planes. Each style has its own unique beauty and flair. Regardless of the style the blades are 3/16” and are made from O – 1 tool steel. 

	Parallel Sided Smoothing Plane The Parallel Sided Open Handled plane is available in your choice of blade widths: 2”, 2 ¼”, or 2 ½”. Coffin Sided Smoothing Plane The Coffin Sided plane is for those craftsmen that prefer a plane without a handle. 	Norris #51 Style The Norris #51 plane is a round-sided smoothing plane with a closed handle and a racy look. Bed Angles ****All Finished Smoothing planes or Machined Castings are available in your choice of 4 different bed angles. Please select one.   45 degrees: Recommended for work on softwoods. 47 ½ degrees: A Norris original angle. Recommended for work on soft or hard woods.  50 degrees: Recommended for work on hard woods. 55 degrees: Recommended for work on difficult woods, such as extra curly wood.
	Cocobola Wood The same richly grained reddish wood we use for our finished planes. Both long and short lengths available depending on your project. Short lengths recommended for Smoothing planes or Miter planes. Longer lengths recommended for Jack or 20” Joiner planes. If you are building our 25” Joiner please select one long and one short length of wood.
